Grass-roots: CS orders smooth transition to LG system

Officials to ensure that the establishment of district level are finalised so that the transition is smooth

LAHORE: Chief Secretary Punjab Captain Zahid Saeed has ordered district coordination officers (DCOs) to complete all arrangements for the transition to the new local government system by December 30.

He ordered officials to ensure that the establishment of district level health and education authorities, division of assets and liabilities and financial matters are finalised so that the transition is smooth.

He issued these directions while presiding over a DCOs conference at the Civil Secretariat here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the chief secretary said all administrative officers must extend their full cooperation to the newly-elected representatives. He added the new setup would help resolve people’s problems at their doorsteps. Saeed said DCOs must play an active role in making the new local government system functional.
