LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has ordered the removal of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) vice-chancellor just one day after provisionally appointing her on the position.

On Monday, a division bench had appointed Dr Uzma Qureshi as the LCWU vice-chancellor while ordering appointment of VCs at three other universities.

On Tuesday, the bench issued another order observing that it was not brought to the notice of the judges on Monday that Dr Uzma was already serving as the acting VC at LCWU.

Dr Uzma was substituted by Dr Rukhsana Kausar as the LCWU vice-chancellor. Her name had been proposed by the VCs search committee.

The judges clarified that substitution of Dr Uzma would have no bearing on her candidature for the VC post.

The proposal that the court provisionally nominates as an interim measure VCs from amongst the recommended names was mutually agreed upon by the parties before the court.
