Police submit charge sheets against two ‘LeJ militants’

Amjad Sabri murder case to be taken up for first time in trial court on Dec 29

The police charge sheeted on Tuesday two suspected militants in nearly a dozen cases including the murder of a qawwali singer and paramilitary personnel.

The counter-terrorism department submitted charge sheets against Ishaq alias Bobby and Asim alias Capri in 11 cases. The suspects are said to be affiliated with Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ).

According to the police, the suspects are hardcore militants of the outlawed LeJ's Naeem Bukhari group and were involved in various terrorist activities across the city until they were nabbed in November, 2016. They were apprehended during a raid in a flat in Liaquatabad and subsequently were interrogated ..

There are around 20 cases against them. Of these, they have been charged sheeted in 11. For the rest, the police claim that they still are working on them.

Sabri murder case


Following the submission of the charge sheet, the Amjad Sabri murder case is likely to be taken up for the first time in a trial court on December 29. The anti-terrorism court's (ATC) administrative judge has tasked the ATC-II with hearing the case.  Sabri, a renowned qawwali singer, was gunned down during a drive-by shooting in Liaquatabad in June, this year. The police investigation revealed that Asim and Ishaq were the assailants behind the  killing.

Targeting Rangers

The case against the two suspects for allegedly killing four Rangers personnel - Qasim Ali, Shahadat Ali, Ashfaq Ali and Akhtar Ali - in an attack in Ittehad Town in November, last year, was sent to ATC-VIII for disposal.

Meanwhile, other cases against the suspects were also referred to ATCs for further legal proceedings. This includes the murder of a father and son in Buffer Zone.
