Pakistan's elite yet to pay their taxes

LAHORE: Punjab Excise and Taxation Department issued notices on Wednesday to multiple luxury car owners who owe Rs 600 million in taxes.

People who have not paid this tax to the government include former president Farooq Leghari, Abida Hussain, Zulfiqar Khosa, Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood, Hina Rabbani Khar, Wasim Akram and Inzamamul Haq.

The amount of tax ranges between Rs 150,000 to 300,000.

The tax is charged on luxury vehicles with an engine capacity of 2.5 litres and above.

Syed A. Mateen | 14 years ago | Reply Some people join politics and become public servants to evade government taxes. To recover the losses, government taxes ordinary people. This is how country is running and then we go and beg from the World Bank and the IMF. In developed countries evasion of taxes is a crime which has no clemency. Unfortunately in Pakistan evasion of tax does not come under the definition of a crime?
Tirmizi | 14 years ago | Reply This is the bitter reality about Pakistan Elites and not just them the whole Pakistani Nation ... I mean the forced taxes are collected just fine , but the trend of filing returns by individuals is yet to be seen here ...
