LAHORE:
For the first time in over two decades, 900 police officers have been promoted to the next rank in one go. The badge-pinning ceremony for the newly promoted officers was held at the Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines on Saturday.

While speaking at the event, Lahore’s Capital City Police Officer Capt (retd) Amin Wains said every police official should resolve to work more diligently and honestly.

“The prime objective of the police is not only to maintain peaceful environment but also to eliminate criminal elements and protect the life and property of the people,” he said.

Wains called upon the officers to actively contribute to the triple one intelligence system, which makes it mandatory for every officer to provide information about at least one criminal in a month. “Newly promoted officials should aim at providing information about two criminals instead of one per week,” he said.

The CCPO along with other police officials, including DIG Investigations Chaudhry Sultan, SSP Admin Rana Ayyaz Salim, SSP Investigations Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera and SSP Operations Muntazir Mehdi, put badges on the police officers.

Tabbassam, a head constable who was promoted to the rank of ASI, said he was thankful to all those police officers who struggled for the approval of promotions, and termed the promotion ‘another milestone’ in his life.

At the end of the ceremony, the newly introduced anti-riot police force presented a demonstration drill.

The initiative to introduce a highly trained mob-handling force has been taken in view of the increasing number of protests in Lahore. A team of master trainers was sent to Turkey.

Three teams of the anti-riot squad wearing sophisticated gadgets presented their skills of dealing with mobs at the ceremony.
