Artists immortalise LHC building in paint

Exhibition of paintings organised at chief justice’s residence

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court held an art and literature competition titled ‘Rule of Law’ on Friday in connection with the ongoing celebrations of its 150th anniversary.

An exhibition of paintings of children from different schools and artists was organised at chief justice’s residence at Government Officers Residences at Aikman Road.

The paintings depicted features of historical building of the LHC from different angles, importance of timely justice, culture at court premises, and rule of law.

Children from different schools and people from different walks of life visited the exhibition. The LHC received about 645 paintings while another 48 old pictures of the historic building were also put on display.

The LHC had also invited submissions of essays relevant to the topic and 748 essays were submitted.

LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah gave awards to three position holders in each category.



Lahore University of Management Sciences teacher Sheikh Ahmed Hassan and Dr Martin evaluated and finalised the names of the three position holders in the essay competition.

Renowned artist Durre Wasim evaluated the paintings and finalised the names of three position holders, who were given individual medals.

The CJ also offered Lahore High Court Reporters Association to nominate one person to receive a shield on their behalf.

Instead of agreeing on one person, the all five representatives of the body were persistent that each of them should receive separate shields. They conveyed their reservations to the media manager of the celebrations, who managed to give away medals to all five representatives.

A few days ago, journalists had also expressed reservations over the lack of food and chairs during the coverage of a cricket match between two teams of judges of the LHC.

The concluding programmes for the 40-day sesquicentennial celebrations, which was started on November 1, will be today (Saturday) with the grand ceremony taking place at Aiwan-e-Iqbal.

Invitations have been sent to judges and lawyers and no one other than invitees can enter the venue.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Chief Justice designate Sheikh Azmat Saeed would also participate in the ceremony.

The last segment of the ceremony would be a tour of old Lahore for the judges and their families.
