German envoy keen to provide assistance in energy sector

Earlier, German delegation met NTDC MD and showed interest in future projects

LAHORE: German Ambassador to Pakistan Ina Lepel said that Germany has always considered Pakistan as its important ally in South Asia and is keen to boost cooperation in the country’s energy sector.

She said this during her visit to the 500 kV grid station Nokhar near Gujranwala, a project of National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC), completed earlier with funding from the German bank.

The German Ambassador was flanked with First Secretary Sabastian Ernest and KfW Development Bank team comprising of Dr Flank Albert, Wolfgang Moellers and Dr Parvaiz Naim.

Earlier, Delegation of Germany’s KfW State Development Bank met NTDC Managing Director Dr Fiaz A. Chaudhry at his office at Water and Power Development Authority House Lahore and showed interest in cooperation in future projects of NTDC.

NTDC chief welcomed their offers and affirmed that Germany has played an important role in the development of Pakistan’s energy sector. He said that 500 kV Grid Station Sheikhupura, 500 kV Sheikh Muhammadi Peshawar and 500 kV Nokhar grid station near Gujranwala were completed with the financial assistance of KfW development bank.

During the visit of the aforementioned grid station, Lepel appreciated the maintenance and efficiency of the project.
