Man knifes fellow labourer to death over Rs600
Three men murdered near Sabzi Mandi in two days; no suspect arrested
ISLAMABAD:
Could a man kill his fellow for a meagre amount of Rs600? Apparently, this happened when a daily-wage labourer lost his cool and stabbed his colleague to death after he allegedly failed to pay the petty amount in time.
On Friday, 25-year-old Zakirullah was stabbed and killed by his fellow in Sector I-10 near the CDA stop on the IJP Road in Islamabad. Police said, "Zakirullah worked here as a homeless labourer, searching for work on a daily basis and living on the footpaths or other makeshift arrangements."
The victim, who hailed from Charsaddah district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, was taken to Rawalpindi’s Holy Family Hospital but did not survive.
Murder most foul: University teacher killed in family feud
Upon investigation, the police found out that his fellow labourer Israr stabbed him for not returning Rs600 which the victim owed to the suspect.
“Israr stabbed him in the chest which resulted in Zakirullah’s death. The reason for the murder was Rs600,” a police officer told The Express Tribune. A case has been registered against the accused but he has not been traced and arrested yet.
Zakirullah’s murder was third such incident in Sabzi Mandi area in the last two days. The police are struggling to solve another two murder cases, taking place a few hundred metres from each other on the same day. No arrest has been made in either of the cases.
Brutal Killing: Police solve blind murder case
In the first of these incidents, which appears to be a targeted killing, a man was gunned down by unidentified persons at the main IJP Road intersection near Sabzi Mandi.
The police said the assailants, who have not been identified yet, fired the only bullet which hit Akhtar Ali, the victim, in the head. The same bullet also hit an 18-year-old woman who was pillion-riding on a motorcycle nearby, they added. The incident happened at around 9pm on Thursday.
Ali died on the way to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences while the woman was taken to Holy Family hospital in a critical condition. A police official said the woman was hit in the neck and had spent a day unconscious at the hospital. Sabzi Mandi police have registered separate cases against unidentified persons on complaints of families of the two victims.
The same day, a man was gunned down in Sector I-10/1, which lies along the IJP Road. In this case, the police have registered a murder case against one nominated and three unidentified persons on the complaint of the victim’s wife.
A police officer said they could not identify and arrest all the suspects immediately as they spent the whole day in medico-legal formalities and reporting.
Meanwhile, all three cases have been handed over to the recently-established homicide investigation unit of the police. “The suspects will be traced and arrested soon,” says Sabzi Mandi SHO Arshad Ali.
