China’s smartphone giant Xiaomi has finally received type approvals from the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) that would allow it to sell its smartphones in the country.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, a PTA spokesperson confirmed that the PTA has granted approval for three sets which include Mi Max, MI 4 and MI 5 last Friday.

According to sources, the telecom authority was approached by local distributors including Daraz, Cheezmall and Haier for commercial NoC.

Under the Telecom Act 1996 (section 29), no terminal equipment can be directly or indirectly connected with PSTN unless it has been type approved by the PTA.

Reports also suggest that Xiaomi will also offer the full range of its Eco products that include Power banks, MI VR and MI band 2.

Xiaomi clarifies not banned by PTA, sets to launch smartphones soon

Earlier in August, the PTA barred XiaomiPK.com from selling Xiaomi products in the country. However, the company published public notice in major newspapers across the country claiming that the XiaomiPK.com is not the official Xiaomi website in Pakistan and not authorised by the company.
