Take four wickets apiece to defeat Karachi Whites by innings and 80 runs

KARACHI: A four-wicket haul by Khalid Usman and Zulfiqar Babar each guided WAPDA to an emphatic win in the second round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Super Eight as they defeated Karachi Whites by an innings and 80 runs at the NBP Stadium in Karachi.

WAPDA resumed their first innings on 417-9 and were able to add four more runs on the third day before losing the last wicket to post a total of 421.

Trailing by 249 runs, the Karachi outfit began their second innings and could only make 169 in 48.5 overs as Usman and Babar took four wickets each, while Zahid Mansoor took the other two to win the match.

In the match at the SBP Sports Complex in Karachi, SSGC defeated SNGPL by an innings and 45 runs to end the defending champions’ hopes of reaching the final.

SNGPL, after being forced to follow-on following their first innings capitulation on 85 runs, resumed their second innings on 63-2 and could only reach 225 as Ahmed Jamal and Ziaul Haq took three wickets each.

Meanwhile at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi, the hosts resumed their second innings on 98-4 and added 203 runs to post a total of 301 before losing all wickets in 93.3 overs to NBP.

Hammad Azam scored 102 runs off 144 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six, while Yasim Murtaza (51) supported him well. For NBP, Atif Jabbar took seven wickets for 74 runs.

At the end of play, NBP, chasing 307, were batting on 55-3 after 19 overs of play with Naved Sarwar (26) and Qaiser Abbas (one) in the middle.
