LONDON: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted he was ‘disappointed’ his side could not hold on to their lead after being held to a 2-2 draw by Paris Saint-Germain in their UEFA Champions League encounter on Wednesday.

The Gunners led with 13 minutes to go before Alex Iwobi’s own goal gave the Parisians a valuable point which puts them at the top of Group A with one game left.

Earlier on in the match, Edinson Cavani had given PSG a 1-0 lead at 18th minute which was then nullified by Olivier Giroud who converted from the penalty spot just before the stroke of half-time. However, a second-half own goal from Marco Verratti put the hosts in lead at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal manager was philosophical afterwards, saying finishing second would not necessarily be a burden for his side who have lost in the last 16 stage six seasons in a row.

“At the moment we are 90 per cent to finish second,” he told reporters. “Will it be good or bad? You can’t guess because you have to wait for the draw. What is more disappointing is that we didn’t win the game.”

Wenger defended Iwobi following his own goal, stating that it was ‘part of the game’ and the team would support him.

“It’s frustrating because Ospina was behind him,” he said. “You have to take it on the chin and support him. Overall it was a fair result because they are very good side with top technical quality. It could have been worse for Arsenal.”

The Frenchman also believed Arsenal were dominant for spells during the match but did concede the team have lost their “winning momentum” in recent games.
