Confirmed: Ranbir, Sonam in Rajkumar Hirani's Sanjay Dutt biopic

The turbulent life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt -- straddling the glamourous world of Bollywood and India's dark underbelly is set to be adapted for celluloid.

According to Pinkvilla, PK director Rajkumar Hirani, who has been working on the project, has reportedly finalised the film's cast. Saawariya pair Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor will star in the film in titular roles. Ranbir will play the role of Dutt while Sonam will feature as a yesteryear actor the original Bollywood rockstar dated in the 90s.

“Her character is not reflective of any particular woman but is a fictional amalgamation of the many women Dutt dated through the 1980s and 90s,” a tabloid reported. Anushka Sharma will also be part of the film. She will essay the role of a journalist in the film.

According to reports, Hirani was not too comfortable with the idea of broaching the topic of the underworld in connection with the film. The biopic will go on the floors in 2017.

The actor found fame with films like Rocky, Vaastav: The Reality, Agneepath, Munna Bhai and Khalnayak.

Dutt was released from jail on February 25, 2016 after completing  a four-year jail term for illegal possession of arms during communal riots that followed the 1993 Bombay bombings.
