Duo’s half-centuries help side open account in Super-Eight stage

KARACHI: A 75-run knock by Asif Zakir guided SSGC to a five-wicket win over Karachi Whites on the third day of their round one match of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy’s Super-Eight stage at the UBL Cricket Ground in Karachi yesterday.

After being asked to follow-on, Karachi Whites resumed their second innings on 167-2 and managed a total of 329 as Muhammad Irfan and Ziaul Haq took four and three wickets respectively.

In reply, SSGC chased down the 174-run target for the loss of five wickets as Asif Zakir scored 75 off 100 balls, while Fawad Alam contributed an unbeaten 69 off 90 balls.

In another match at the SBP cricket ground, centuries by Imran Farhat and Inamul Haq helped HBL post a sizable first innings total of 439-9 and take a 160-run lead against NBP on the third day of their encounter.

HBL resumed their innings on 188-1 and added 251 runs before declaring their innings as Farhat and Inam scored 108 runs each off 173 and 289 balls respectively. For NBP, Yasir Hussain and Ali Manzoor took three wickets apiece.

At the end of play, NBP were 36-2 in their second innings, trailing by 124 runs with Hamza Paracha (2) and Ahsaan Ali (23) on the crease.

At the Niaz Stadium, UBL resumed their first innings on 223-7 against KRL on the third day but were skittled out at 240 as Muhammad Abbas took five wickets and Ahmed Bashir claimed three scalps.

At the end of play, KRL had reached 232-6 in their seconds innings and enjoyed a 285-run lead, thanks to a 99-run knock by Syed Junaid Ali and Nawaz Ahmed’s 48.
