Awareness walk: 10% people diabetic, say doctors

MIRPUR: Around 10 per cent of Pakistan’s population is living with diabetes.

This was stated by speakers at a diabetes awareness walk held in Mirpur on Thursday.

The walk was held to mark Universal Diabetes Day to create awareness among the public about the disease.

Member Legislative Assembly Muhammad Saeed, MBBS Medical College Mirpur Principal Muhammad Rasheed, physician Dr Aurangzeb Alamgeer joined the walk. The walk started from the Kashmir Institute of Cardiology (KIC) and culminated at the Divisional Head Quarter Hospital in the city. peaking on this occasion, seasoned Dr Alamgeer and Prof Qureshi advised screening for type-two diabetes to modify its course and reduce the risk of complications.

Diabetes, they underlined, was a huge and growing burden. At least 12.9 million Pakistanis were afflicted by it with diabetes in Pakistan and this number is expected to increase further.
