LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday granted pre-arrest bail to an advocate in a policeman torture case after the former apologised to the cop in open court.

Justice Abdul Sami Khan asked Advocate Abid to beg forgiveness from the victim or face the trial. The lawyer also opted to seek pardon from the policeman.

Islampura police had registered a case against the lawyer for torturing ASI Ikram at a sessions court. Provisions of anti-terrorism law were also stated in the FIR.

In his bail petition, the advocate denied the incident and said the case against him was fabricated. A deputy prosecutor general told the court the lawyer had a history of manhandling policemen visiting courts. He added the lawyer was involved in three more similar cases.

The court allowed the bail petition after the ASI pardoned the advocate. The judge warned the lawyer of sending him to jail if he was found involved in such a case again.
