Drug use, domestic dispute cited; Japanese man found dead in hotel

RAWALPINDI: A man on Tuesday killed his mother in Satellite Town by slitting her throat after a domestic dispute, the police said.

After killing his mother, the killer also tried to commit suicide using a piece of broken glass and was shifted to Holy Family Hospital (HFH), where doctors are trying to keep him alive, the police added.

The deceased was identified as Rukhsana Rashid and the alleged killer as Rehan Mughal.

According to New Town SHO Mirza Yasin, Mughal attacked his mother with a shard of glass and slit her throat. The woman died on the spot due to loss of blood, he said.

The victim’s body was shifted to HFH for post-mortem. The SHO said the police enhanced deployment around the suspect in the hospital after a murder case was filed on the complaint of his brother, Imran Mughal.

He said that the complainant claimed Rehan was a heavy drug user.

Japanese man found dead

Meanwhile, a Japanese man was found dead in the washroom of his hotel room in Saddar, the Cantt police said on Tuesday.

A police team responded to a call from the hotel administration and moved the body to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for autopsy.

The deceased was identified as Ota Akira, 55.

A police officer said the cause of death may be cardiac arrest, but they are also investigating unnatural causes. They have held Farhat Ali, the local business partner of the deceased who was staying in the same hotel room.

According to sources, Ali and Ota Akira hired a room in a mid-range hotel in Saddar. They said Ota went to take a shower at around 9am when he fell on the floor of the washroom and died on the spot. They said Farhat got worried after a while and knocked at the door after a half hour. “Farhat opened the door with a push and saw Ota lying on the floor,” SHO Javed Khan said.

“Initial investigations suggest Ota died of cardiac arrest, but the final cause of death will be determined after issuance of a post mortem report,” Khan said.

He said the police also found some medicines in the room for an unidentified foot disease. “There was swelling on the feet of the body,” he said.

“Ali spent 22 years in Japan and started a car business with his friend Ota, who came to Rawalpindi on November 6,” Khan added.
