Discussion: Workshop on developing ostrich farming held

The participants highlighted various impediments and extended suggestion for uplift of ostrich farming in the country

LAHORE: The Department of Wildlife and Ecology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) organised an inception workshop on a project, 'Developing of Ostrich Farming in Punjab', on Tuesday.

‘With the help of the Punjab government, the livestock department will provide all services, including disease diagnosis, vaccination, laboratory, slaughtering and Nutrition (feed) facilities to all ostrich farmers,” said Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab Secretary Naseem Sadiq while speaking at the workshop organised in collaboration with the Livestock and Dairy Development Department(L&DD) Punjab. He said that ostrich could gain a weight of 100-kg in 10-12 months and could be sold at reasonable price. He added the meat of the ostrich can be exported as the bird is disease-free. The participants highlighted various impediments, issues and extended suggestion for uplift of ostrich farming in the country.
