Nayyar always acknowledged his mentor Ahmed Rushdi

LAHORE: Famed ghazal and film singer A Nayyar (Arthur Nayyar) died in Lahore on Friday after a prolonged illness.

He started his singing career from the film Bahisht in 1974. His first film song yunhin din cut jayen and yuhin shaam dhal jaye was a duet song with Rubina Badar, which was composed by A Hameed Nayyar.

Nayyar always acknowledged his mentor Ahmed Rushdi, who taught him playback singing and contributed a lot in his singing career. Nayyar and Akhlaq Ahmed were one of the most renowned playback singers of Pakistani film industry in the 1980s.

Nayyar earned the Nigar Award four times for The Best Singer for the films ‘Aag’ in 1979 which was directed by Hasan Askari, ‘Jeenay naheen doon gee’ in 1985 which was directed by Sangeeta, ‘Ghareboan ka badshah’ in 1988 directed by Pervez Malik and ‘Taqat ka tufaan’ directed by Sangeeta in 1989.
