KARACHI:
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is all set to become an independent company after the Board of Governors’ (BOGs) approved the plan at the 42nd meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), chairman Shaharyar Khan confirmed yesterday.
“The members have given the go-ahead to make PSL a separate company,” Shaharyar told reporters after the meeting, which continued for a marathon eight hours.
PSL Chairman Najam Sethi had revealed last month that the T20 league plans to be a private body, saying that ‘he wants to keep the PSL away from PCB’s politics’.
PSL separated from PCB after approval
However, Shaharyar said that while the PSL will be a separate company it will still ‘remain under the supervision of the PCB’.
The PCB chairman also said that officials who are serving in both the PCB and PSL should choose between the two as dual roles would not be acceptable.
Meanwhile, Sethi revealed that out of the five directors who will be part of PSL’s new governing body, three will be from the PCB.
“There will be five directors; three of them will be from the PCB while the remaining two will be from outside the board,” he said. “Industrialist Arif Habib and lawyer Zia Rizvi will be the other members of the PSL board and one of the two will be elected as the new chairman of the PSL.”

Sethi further said that the profit from the T20 league would belong to the PCB.
Following the development, the PSL is also likely to have a separate secretariat and a media department.
PCB chairman happy with team’s show
Talking about topics apart from the PSL, Shaharyar expressed satisfaction over the team’s performance in recent series. “Pakistan have been doing really well. I’ve received a message from the Marylebone Cricket Club’s officials who have praised the team’s performance and attitude [during England tour],” he said.
The 82-year-old put his faith in the team to perform well on the upcoming tours as well and revealed that the current domestic system featuring clubs and departments will be retained.
“Special emphasis will be given to Quetta, FATA and Azad Kashmir regions. The private schools will be included in the School Championship to make the event more competitive,” he said.
Don’t want PCB politics in PSL, says Najam Sethi
Gave befitting reply to India at ICC meeting: Sethi
Sethi, who attended the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) meeting in Cape Town last month, claimed he lashed out at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) President Anurag Thakur.
“We have clearly said if India will not play us then we should be awarded the points for their no-show,” Sethi revealed at the press conference.
Sethi was responding to Thakur’s request that the ICC keep both countries in separate groups in its flagship tournaments.
“I confronted Thakur and asked him for his official version but he remained silent. I made it clear to the ICC that if India will not play us then they will have to forfeit the match,” he said.
Discussing the issue of India not playing the bilateral series, Sethi said: “I also raised the issue of India’s refusal to play the bilateral series despite agreements and sought compensation for the losses we suffered because of that.”
Talking about the PSL final being staged in Lahore, Sethi said the board was doing ‘everything’ to make that happen. “We are giving our best and are in touch with the Punjab government. We need to host the PSL final in Lahore and will do our best for the purpose,” he said.
