In another incident on Friday, India’s Border Security Force (BSF) resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling at the Working Boundary in Shakargarh sector, north of Chak Amroo village.

The Foreign Office on Thursday registered protest with United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) after Indian firing along the Line of Control (LoC) killed one civilian.

“UNMOGIP representative was handed protest by GHQ regarding targeting of civilians by Indian Army and use of heavy calibre mortars,” Foreign office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said on Twitter. “UNMOGIP has been requested to immediately investigate the matter,” Zakaria added.

On Wednesday, a villager was killed while five others, including three women, were injured when Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing twice along the Karela sector of Line of Control. Pakistan Army responded to the firing in a befitting manner, silencing Indian guns.

Earlier on October 16, Indian troops violated the ceasefire along the LoC in the Khoiratta (Bhimber) sector of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. No loss was reported in the incident.

Tensions along the LoC have been high ever since India accused Pakistan of being involved in an attack on an army base in Uri on September 18, in which 19 Indian soldiers were killed. Islamabad has denied the charge, which Delhi leveled without any substantial investigation or evidence.

Mr Obvious | 7 years ago | Reply What does blindly firing artillery across the border accomplish? I suppose it provides Pakistan with the ability to make statements saying "befittingly" - but you can bet money that if the USA was in same situation they would take out every border outpost within 24 hours and send a message that any attempt to reconstruct will be met with a "befitting" response.
