KARACHI: Teenager Sameen Gul claimed eight wickets on the first day of the sixth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to give UBL a commanding position over HBL at the Multan Cricket Stadium yesterday.

HBL were dismissed for just 139 runs with the 17-year-old finishing with figures of 8-44. UBL were 18-1 at stumps.

In Sargodha, KRL restricted PIA to 121 before ending the day on 97-3, while in Sialkot, SSGC got off to a flying start against WAPDA, registering 361-5 following an unbeaten 128 by Asif Zakir. Pakistan discard Fawad Alam also scored 92 off 96 balls.

Meanwhile, a total of 15 wickets fell on the first day at the National Stadium of Karachi with Lahore Blues eyeing a strong lead against Karachi Blues. After bowling the Karachi outfit for 153 runs, Lahore were on 118-5 at stumps.

In the match at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi, Karachi Whites scored 257 runs against FATA following a 58-run knock by Saad Ali. FATA were 5-1 at stumps.

SNGPL were 222-6 against NBP in Faisalabad with Taufeeq Umar (69) and Mohammad Hafeez (42) showing a glimpse of their old batting form. Khurram Shahzad also impressed with a 63-run knock.

At the LCCA Ground in Lahore, Lahore Whites were struggling on 174-8 against Rawalpindi with Asif Raza (39 not out) the only one who showed any resistance. Abid Hussain (3-47) was the most successful bowler for Rawalpindi.
