ATC grants police seven-day physical remand of suspect

MANSEHRA: The police’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Abbottabad and intelligence agencies on Friday arrested a suspected militant during an intelligence-based operation in Mansehra district.

He was later produced before a court which granted police his physical remand for a week.

According to officials, police, CTD and intelligence agencies carried out a joint raid on a house in Tandiyan village of Mansehra in which Niaz, a suspected operative of Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) Swat chapter was arrested.

Officials claimed to have recovered six kilogrammes of explosive material, a hand grenade and some weapons from the possession of the suspect.

He was later shifted to an unknown location for interrogation.

However, officials said that Niaz had been produced before the Hazara anti-terrorist court later on Friday. Police told the court that the suspect was wanted in a number of terrorist activities and that they had recovered explosives and weapons from his custody.

The judge, after hearing the arguments, granted police seven-days physical remand of the suspect to question him.
