Higher education: Qatar seeks help of Pakistani varsities

Qatar’s envoy observes remarkable development in post-graduate studies

The education budget has witnessed a 13 per cent increase on last year’s Rs86 billion.

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission is making concentrated efforts to improve access to quality education. This was stated by HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed as he spoke to the Ambassador of Qatar to Pakistan, Saqr bin Mubarak Al-Mansouri.

The latter called on the chairman at the commission secretariat. The chairman welcomed the ambassador and briefed him on HEC initiatives to promote higher education with special focus on universities, faculty and students.

He said the government was making concerted efforts to promote research. Ahmed stressed on the need to promote collaboration between the higher education institutions of Pakistan and Qatar, through bilateral cooperation, university-to-university contact and faculty exchange. He said HEC encourages foreign students to study in Pakistani universities.

Appreciating the steps to improve higher education in Pakistan, the Qatar ambassador observed Pakistan made remarkable development in the higher education sector. He added that Pakistan and Qatar enjoy brotherly ties which had strengthened over the years.
