Action in Sukkur

The police arrested three suspects and recovered moonshine during a raid at a house near Lal Makaan situated in C section police limits in Sukkur on Monday night.

Following the closure of wine shops across Sindh by the government on court orders, the sale of moonshine is reportedly on the rise, while the sale also increased on the occasion of Diwali.

In this regard, a team of C section police raided a house near Lal Makaan and arrested three suspects, identified as Muhammad Tahir Shaikh, Altaf Khaskheli and Riaz Abro. The police also recovered 25 litres of spurious liquour from their possession. An FIR (148/2016) under Section 3-4 of the Drugs Act has been registered against them.

Sukkur SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh, who had already taken preemptive measures to curb the preparation and sale of spurious liquor in the wake of the closure of wine shops, awarded a commendation certificate to the police team.

The SSP said that their intelligence branch had already identified the persons who used to prepare and sell spurious liquor, adding that the suspects were arrested and charge-sheeted in the court. Strict instructions have been issued to all the SHOs throughout the district to keep an eye on the preparation and sale of moonshine, the SSP informed, adding that all the SHOs are required to submit a certificate that no such activity is being carried out in their respective areas. The SHOs have been warned that drastic action will be taken if moonshine preparation and sale is discovered in their areas, he added.
