Finding solutions: SSGC, KMC reach understanding over outstanding dues
Gas company still has reservations over amount billed to it
The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) have reached an understanding to settle the issue of outstanding municipal dues amicably.
According to a press release issued by the SSGC, it was mutually agreed by the two organisations at a meeting that KMC’s administration will provide further details against their claimed amount to the SSGC.
It was also agreed that these details will then be shared with the SSGC’s legal department for an opinion for further action. Subsequently, in light of the legal opinion and after reviewing the relevant documents in detail, another meeting will be held in this regard to arrive at an amicable solution.
The press release also clarified that the office of the gas company was not sealed by the KMC as reported in The Express Tribune on Tuesday. It, however, confirmed that KMC had served a notice on SSGC for payment of charges and taxes billed to the utility under Municipal Utility Charges and Tax.
Nevertheless, the gas company has strong reservations on the amount that was billed to the company that needed details, reconciliation and/or applicability of these taxes. In this context, the officials of both the organisations met on Tuesday in KMC’s office to comprehensively discuss the issue.
