ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance cooperation and contact on issues of mutual interest between the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and anti-corruption institutions in Tehran.
This was decided in a meeting between NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry and Attorney General of Iran Syed Jafer Montazeri at NAB headquarters on Tuesday, a press release said.

Montazeri, who is on a visit to Pakistan, had called on the NAB chairman and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.
Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost, NAB deputy chairman and Prosecutor General Accountability (PGA) attended the meeting as well.
Chaudhry said that corruption was a menace for all developing countries especially Asian countries which are striving for growth and to maintain economic stability.
Montazeri appreciated NAB’s performance and detailed the three-tier workings of anti-corruption institutions in Iran.

In this respect, he said that Iran had a NAB of its own, a Judicial Anti-Corruption Organisation and a Public Accounts Committee which work to eradicate corruption. He then requested a written report about NAB’s mechanism.
