LAHORE: A consumer court on Saturday issued a notice to the chief executive of Tracking World (Pvt) Ltd for March 3 after the company was sued by an insurance provider for over Rs6.5 million for allegedly installing a faulty tracking kit in a car.

The petitioner, Universal Insurance Company Ltd, submitted that the respondent had misrepresented its services. The respondent had claimed that it was bringing the latest vehicle tracking technology to Pakistan and the new system from Web Tech Wireless had been tested and was already running in 37 countries including the USA, the UK, Canada and Middle Eastern countries.

According to the petition, the insurance company and tracking company entered an agreement whereby the latter would install devices in cars insured or owned by the former. The complainant submitted that Rs8 million was paid to the respondent for the purpose. Among the vehicles provided with a tracking system was a Toyota Corolla car belonging to a former managing director of the insurance company.

On the morning of May 5, 2010, the said vehicle was stolen from the Cavalry Ground residence of Sardar Khan. The complainant said that the respondent had not taken the appropriate steps to make sure the vehicle was not stolen. The respondent had failed to perform its obligations and it had falsely represented its services.

The complaint asked the court to direct the respondent to pay Rs1,000,000 (the cost of the car), plus Rs5 million for “mental torture”, Rs500,000 for legal costs, and another Rs1,750 for each day the car remains stolen for non-availability of conveyance.

When The Express Tribune contacted Tracking World, an official said he was not authorised to comment on the case nor direct the query to senior officials.
