Sushma Swaraj meets Geeta, will send her in search of parents

The deaf and mute girl, who accidentally crossed over to Pakistan, returned to India last year

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met on Sunday Geeta, the speech and hearing-impaired girl who returned to India last year. She had accidentally crossed over to Pakistan years ago.

According to Indian Express, the Indian minister said Geeta will be assisted to begin a journey in search of her parents to places she has indicated in sign language.

Geeta, who returned to India in October 2015, had stayed in Pakistan with the Edhi Foundation in Karachi.

Sushma spent almost an hour with Geeta and gave her gifts ahead of Diwali. The minister said earlier plans to send her on a journey could not materialise because of monsoon.

So far, several couples have come forward to claim Geeta as their daughter but she could neither recognise them nor their claims could be substantiated.
