ISLAMABAD:
A sessions court on Saturday dismissed a petition seeking the registration of an FIR against those named in the Panama Papers.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Asif Mehmood dismissed the petition after the Aabpara police submitted their reply, saying that inquiries such Panama leaks were out of their mandate. The police said the petitioner should approach the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) or the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for an inquiry into the Panama Papers.
Shahnaz Butt, the petitioner, had moved the court after the police refused to register a case. She had requested the court to order the police to register an FIR and investigate the Panama Papers. She said she also submitted an application to the Operations SSP, but no action was taken. The court dismissed the petition after hearing the police’s point of view.
