KARACHI: After months of reorganisation within the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), food and parliamentary affairs minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has been appointed the party’s provincial chief. Khuhro had earlier been shortlisted, along with party stalwart Qaim Ali Shah and Maula Bux Chandio, for the position. The final decision was made on Thursday by PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

CM Murad Ali Shah congratulated Khuhro on his appointment as PPP’s Sindh president and said the party will be further strengthened in the province under his leadership.

Khuhro is a seasoned politician who started his political journey under the leadership of Benazir Bhutto. He rose from the position of PPP’s president for Larkana district in 1990 to vice-president of PPP, Sindh, in 1993 and then became president of PPP, Sindh, in 1997. He served as deputy leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly in 1990 and leader of the opposition in 1997. The CM termed it a ‘commendable decision’ on the part of the party leadership.
