KARACHI: The Sindh government issued on Tuesday a notification to lift the ban on recruitment for all kinds of government jobs across the province.

The notification was issued by the services, general administration and coordination department, following a cabinet decision a few days ago. "The concerned are advised to take further necessary action strictly and complete this process within three months," said the notification, adding that the government will make sure to allocate 5% quota each for women and minorities in the jobs and 2% quota for disabled persons.

"The appointment from grade 1 to grade 15 will be made through selection committees," said the notification. The vacant positions in every department will be advertised in the newspapers and people will be recruited purely on merit basis, it added. Officials said that the relevant secretary of the department will head the selection committee with members from finance, services, general administration and coordination department as its members.

According to the notification, if any appointment is found against the rules, the relevant administrative secretary of the department will be held responsible for it. Official sources told The Express Tribune that the government has prepared the details of vacant posts in each department and more than 90,000 people will be recruited and promoted in various departments. "There will be around 50,000 fresh appointments and 40,000 people will be promoted to the next grade," said an official in the services department.

On the other hand, information adviser Maula Bux Chandio told the media that there had been a ban on government jobs for quite some time and it has been lifted as Pakistan Peoples Party believes in giving jobs to people. "We are setting precedents of appointing people on merit," he said while refuting reports that jobs will be given to party 'jiyalas.'

Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) parliamentary leader Syed Sardar Ahmed said that they are not against giving jobs to unemployed youth but the jobs should be given on merit by taking care of 60/40 share criteria in urban and rural areas. "Unfortunately, the government does not implement the 40% share of urban areas," he claimed, adding that the MQM has been highlighting this issue at various forums.
