KARACHI:
WAPDA bowlers were in stunning form yesterday as they crushed Islamabad to guide their side to a win by an innings and 100 runs in their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy third round fixture of at the Rawalpindi Stadium.

Islamabad, being forced to follow on after being restricted to 156 in their first innings, resumed their second innings on 225-5 following WAPDA’s first innings total of 504 runs.

The capital outfit were able to add just 23 runs to the total of 248 runs before being dismissed by WAPDA as Khalid Usman took four wickets, while Muhammad Asif and Zahid Manzoor claimed two scalps apiece. Earlier in the first innings, Waqas Masood took five wickets while Usman and Asif took two each.

In the other Pool A match, a six-wicket haul by Aamer Yamin helped SSGC defeat Lahore Blues by an innings and 46 runs. The Lahore outfit resumed their second innings on 67-2 in reply to SSGC’s first innings total of 423 and lost all their wickets for just 111 runs.

Meanwhile at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi, Usman Shinwari’s four wickets guided HBL to a nine-wicket win over Karachi Blues.

The hosts had resumed their second innings on 125-1 and were dismissed for 286 as, along with Shinwari, Zohaib Khan, Abdul Rehman and Yamin Ahmed Zia took two wickets apiece.


HBL, with their first innings total of 420 runs, were given a target of only 24 runs which they reached comfortably in 6.1 overs.

In the Pool B match between FATA and PIA, the former registered a 157-run win over the latter as chasing a target of 345 runs, PIA, who resumed their second innings on 33-3, were restricted to 187. Asif Afridi and Irfanullah Shah took three wickets each.

Abbas’ all-round heroics help KRL post strong total

Meanwhile, the other two Pool B matches ended in a draw.

In a tense match between NBP and Rawalpindi, the former just needed 12 more runs, while the latter needed a wicket to register a win.

In the match between Lahore Whites and SNGPL, the departmental outfit, chasing a target of 155 runs, were only able to make 21 runs before umpires called off play.
