While talking about her work, one of the artists, Faiza Gondal, told The Express Tribune her work is inspired from the notion of female spirituality.

“I’ve tried to portray stages of womanhood — from a young girl to becoming a mother — using gadrang technique,” she said.

Gondal added she considers motherhood to be a high level of spirituality.

Another artist, Tooba Ali’s, painting revolved around the theme of empathy and the ability to share moments of pain with other people.

“To visualise this concept, I’ve portrayed angels feeling the pain and happiness of human beings around them,” she explained.

Since ACF aims to preserve dying art forms as well as heritage and culture, the exhibition also features the work showing the Mughal era.

One of the works has the Mughal kind, Aurangzeb Alamgir, painted on a Rs500 note. The painting is the work of Mehreen Nasim, a former student of National College of Arts, who has six of her pieces on display.

She said her work aims to highlight the significance of the Mughal king in today’s times. “The connection comes from the fact that Aurangzeb commissioned to build the Badshahi mosque, which is sketched on the current Rs500 note,” Nasim said.

The organiser of the exhibition, Dilshad Rao, said the exhibition is a display of commitment towards their motto since the artists participating in the show were catering to existing art forms like traditional calligraphy and miniature painting. Lahore Arts Council Executive Director Atta Muhammad Khan inaugurated the show.

He appreciated the work on display, vowing to continue to support the artists.
