Karachi University cancels admissions of five students

Mark-sheets were allegedly tampered with

KARACHI: The admissions of five students of Masters and diploma programmes have been cancelled by Karachi University (KU) as their mark-sheets were found to be 'forged'.

KU admissions director Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi has notified that the admissions of five students have been cancelled as their mark-sheets were 'tampered' with.

Upon verification from the examinations department of the university, the mark-sheets of the candidates who were granted admissions in Masters and diploma for the session of 2016-2017 in the evening programme have been found forged or tampered with, Dr Iraqi notified on Thursday. Therefore, the admissions of these students stands cancelled with immediate effect.

A notification has been issued to the departments concerned, stating that the admissions of Shahnawaz Rauf bearing Form no 2118 from English department, Amna Abbas bearing Form no 713 from health, physical education and sports sciences department, Muhammad Ahad Azhar bearing Form no 588 from public administration department, Arsalan Ahmed Khan bearing Form no 1519 from economics department and Qasim Khan bearing Form no 835 from Karachi University Business School stand cancelled.



A letter of cancellation of admission has been posted to the students' house. The university also gives a chance to such students to contact the university and submit an application for review of case, explained Dr Iraqi. "Students can write an application with the reason of submitting fake mark-sheets and should produce original documents to reconsider the case," he said, adding that no case of readmission happened in the last one decade.

Talking about the boards and charges for the verification of mark-sheets, Dr Iraqi said that the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, does not charge money from the university for the process of verification but all other institutions outside Karachi charge Rs700-Rs1,500 per mark-sheet. "The university pays around Rs70,000 [to other universities] yearly for verification of mark-sheets," he said.
