With the death of Australian cricket legend John Gleeson, mostly known as “the mystery spinner”, who made no such open ways for the batsmen rather than to get out from the pitch with his unique bent finger spin, passed away at the age of 78 in Tamworth on October 7. An era comes to an end in cricket.
His career saw him take 93 wickets at an average of 36.20 in 29 Test matches between 1967 and 1972. John Gleeson will be remembered as one of the finest and most innovative cricketers. He will go down as a hero in the annals of cricket history and he has left behind his fine imprint as a great sportsman who played an instrumental role in winning many matches for his side.
