KARACHI: Judicial magistrates released on Monday around 50 more people arrested for violating the motorcycle pillion riding ban enforced by the authorities ‘to maintain the law and order situation in the city during Muharram processions’.

The police presented the arrested persons before different judicial magistrates, submitting that they were taken into custody for the violation of Section 144 imposed these days and their motorcycles were impounded. The magistrates, confirming the details of the persons presented before them, ordered that they be released after obtaining a surety of Rs5,000 from each of them and their motorcycles be returned following the checking of the vehicles’ documents.

Earlier on Sunday, judicial magistrates performing special duties at City and Malir courts had released more than 100 people arrested for similar violations. The ban on pillion riding came into effect on Saturday evening and will continue till Muharram 11 (Thursday).
