SUKKUR: The police apprehended more than a dozen suspects and bulldozed and torched the hideouts of alleged criminals during raids in different villages of the katcha area on Saturday.

The raids were conducted after two policemen were killed during an encounter with criminals on Friday. The encounter took place between the police and dacoits near Rakha Landhi, which is the katcha area of Faiz Muhammad Bhindo police station. Two policemen, Mubarak alias Fauji Narejo and Younus Kanhar, were killed in the exchange of fire with the suspects while four policemen, identified as Altaf Soomro, Allah Dino Bullo, Mukhtiar Sial and Atta Muhammad Bhuttom, were injured, who were taken to Civil Hospital, Khairpur.

The police also killed an alleged dacoit, Bilawal alias Bilu Narejo, and injured two of his accomplices during the encounter.

The police claimed that Bilawal's body and his injured accomplices were taken away by their gang members. A Piryalo-based reporter, quoting his sources in the katcha, confirmed Bilawal's killing. He added that Bilawal was the son of an alleged criminal, identified as Ahmed Narejo, and was wanted by the police in many cases. The Sindh government had also announced a bounty of Rs1 million for capturing or killing Bilawal.

He was also said to be a relative of another suspected dacoit, Nazroo Narejo, who was gunned down by the police couple of months ago, the reporter added.
