Promotion of agriculture sought

Sector important for majority of the population.

ISLAMABAD: Agriculture officials of the country have been urged to contribute as much as possible to encourage promotion of the agriculture sector.

Speaking at a briefing by Secretary Ministry of Food and Agriculture  Junaid Iqbal, the Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Mir Israrullah Zehri pledged to strengthen the agriculture sector, stressing its importance for the majority of the population.

Zehri said, “More than 70 per cent of our people are related to this sector of Pakistan, which needs our coordinated efforts for further promotion. We must ensure self sufficiency in the sector to fulfil our domestic requirements and export targets to earn foreign exchange.”

He explained that sector has huge potential, and that officials of the ministry must put in greater efforts for the welfare of the farming community. “We must work together, with an open mind, towards promotion of agriculture to achieve maximum output. Visionary plans must be prepared and implemented achieve this,” he explained.
