The official price list issued by the Lahore Market Committee saw an increase of 75% in bottle gourds prices as compared to the previous week. It was available for Rs30 to Rs35 per kilogramme at the weekly makeshift market.
The second highest price hike was seen in the cost of lemon, which were available for Rs180 to Rs190 a kilogramme following an increase of 41%. Brinjal prices showed 33% increase with the vegetable available for Rs18 to Rs20 a kilogramme. Tomatoes became dearer by 31% and were available for Rs50 to Rs55 a kilogramme.
The price of cauliflowers showed over 12% increase with a selling price of Rs23 to Rs25 per kilogramme. Garlic price rose by 9% from last week and it available for Rs235 to Rs250 per kilogramme. The Chinese garlic variety was selling for Rs250 to Rs265 per kilogramme.
Bitter gourds and Chinese carrots also became dearer with an 8% hike in prices. Bitter gourds were available for Rs60 to Rs70 a kilogramme while the Chinese carrots were selling for Rs 65 to Rs70 per kilogramme. Green peas and green chillies witnessed 7% increase in their prices with peas available for Rs135 to Rs145 per kilogramme and chillies selling for Rs80. A farmed chilli variety was being sold for Rs45 to Rs50 a kilogramme.
Fenugreek or methi, cabbages, turnips, spinach, onions, radishes and Chinese ginger were a few vegetable that showed decline in their prices. Methi prices went down the highest by 30% and it was available for Rs65 to Rs70 a kilogramme. Cabbages shed 22% and were available for Rs23 to Rs25 a kilo. Turnips prices registered 17% decrease and were traded for Rs50 a kilogramme while spinach cost went down by 9%. It was available for Rs15 to Rs20 a kilo. Onions and radishes also shed 9% and 8%, respectively with onions selling for Rs18 to Rs20 a kilo and radishes for Rs12 per kilogramme.
Capsicums, carrots, cucumbers, lady fingers, potatoes and taro roots (arvi) prices remained stable at the previous week’s level.
