LAHORE: The Punjab Industry Department has refused to extend the contract of more than 30 officials of the Punjab Consumer Protection Council (PCPC) and District Consumer Protection Councils (DCPC), affecting work at consumer courts in six districts.

The officers had requested extension four months ago but the department refused their pleas after learning they had approached the Lahore High Court against their high-ups, an insider told The Express Tribune.

The officials complain the tenure of two blue-eyed officials has been extended for three years while the others have been refused despite the two officials being a part of the same writ petition filed in the LHC. They said they filed the petition seeking their regularisation and not seeking extension in contract.

Industry Secretary Khalid Sher Dil said the department could not extend the contract now until the court decided the case.

A few days ago, the industry department issued a notification for fresh recruitments through Punjab Public Service Commission.
