On the fashion front : A night of indulgence
Here are the two who made the greatest statements on the ‘chocolate’ carpet
LAHORE:
Could revolutionary thinkers like Salvatore Dali of the 1920s Surrealist movement have guessed that their ideas — meant to obliterate conformity — would have such an enduring effect on fashion? Or that it would find its way to an ‘art meets fashion’ party in Karachi almost 100 years later? Probably not. Below, The Express Tribune picks out the man and woman that made the greatest statements on the ‘chocolate’ carpet at an event this week. Could they have taken the whole concept too far?
Ali Xeeshan
The most eccentric, irreverent and self-assured designer of them all, Ali Xeeshan turned up in an all black outfit sporting a rooster and an egg on his head! That’s right. The rest of his look sort of fell into the shadows (quite literally) with the statement hat. As the couturier posed on the chocolate carpet, he showed attenders that he knows how to view fashion through an unapologetic, twisted and unexpected lens. The surrealist philosophy of art was to have no boundary of logical conception and he really drove that point home.
Aamina Sheikh
Aamina Sheikh has been making some seriously head turning fashion statements since her return to the entertainment scene. For the event, the stylista stepped out in a Nomi Ansari ensemble that was a colour riot, much like most of his creations. Her hot pink top and jacket were paired with a glittering silver midi skirt. She added on some colour with bright yellow Sophia Webster’s which, frankly, could have been done away with for something more neutral. But keeping in mind the surrealist theme — we’ll let Sheikh have this one.
