Google teases with mysterious ads ahead of October 4 launch

#MadeByGoogle — a phrase that's been promoted for Oct 4 event — was also seen on the base of the statue

With less than two weeks to Google’s October 4th event, where the tech giant is expected to unveil its latest smartphones, the company is engaging in guerrilla marketing.

The tech giant has installed more than one building-sized advert trailing the event, as well as pictures of a statue in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The adverts and the statue are similar to the original video teaser released by Google this week, showing a plain white rounded rectangle with an empty centre along with the date October 4, and Google's "G" icon placed next to it.

A reddit user pointed out that the hashtag #MadeByGoogle — a phrase that's been promoted for this event — was also seen on the base of a statue in Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York City.

Earlier this week, images of two handsets were leaked that may be the ones that will be launch on October 4, with the two rather bland handsets matching the plain-rounded-rectangle look of the adverts.

Google may stamp its latest smartphones with a “Pixel” brand instead of the “Nexus” name it has used in the past for Android smartphones it has made in collaborations with partners. They are also expected to be priced around $650, in competing range with Apple’s iPhone 7.

It remains to be seen whether Google’s event will match its active marketing campaign but I guess we will have to wait till the event.
