Days after the United States said they were closely monitoring the events in Karachi, US Consul General Grace Shelton called on Wednesday Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar at the party’s temporary headquarters in PIB colony.

According to Express News, the US envoy discussed with the MQM leader the city's political situation, and also inquired about his health condition as Sattar had recently gone through an accident.

The accident occurred near Nooriabad in Jamshoro district, about 60 kilometres off Hyderabad. The vehicle in which Sattar was travelling overturned apparently due to the construction work that had been going on at Super Highway.

The meeting came almost month after the party disassociated itself from MQM supremo Altaf Hussain after the latter's anti-Pakistan speech.

Following Altaf's remarks, law enforcement agencies launched a Sindh-wide crackdown on the party, demolishing a number of its unit and sector offices allegedly built on encroached land, as well as sealing the headquarters Nine Zero.

Earlier, the Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Margaret Adamson, had also called on Sattar in Karachi.
