Kashmiri student expelled over ‘objectionable’ Facebook post on Uri attack
Mudassar Yusuf claimed he put up the post after being carried away by sentiments
A Kashmiri student has been expelled from India's Aligarh Muslim University over an 'objectionable' Facebook post on the Uri attack.
Mudassar Yusuf was expelled from the university on Monday after Vice-Chancellor Zameeruddin Shah "personally" probed the matter, a spokesperson for the varsity claimed.
The post, which has been removed from the social networking website read, “17 Indian army men have been killed by those who have been made terrorists by the (Indian) army itself,” according to Hindustan Times.
Modi wants Pakistan immediately isolated after Uri attacks
Yusuf, who was pursuing a master's in chemistry, said he had put up the post after getting "carried away". The Kashmiri student had later apologised to Shah.
Claiming that the vice chancellor had taken serious notice of the issue, the spokesperson said, “Shah said that there is no scope whatsoever at AMU for tolerating any incident which smacks of anti-national sentiments". Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MP from Aligarh Satish Kumar Gautam had also written to Shah demanding action against Yusuf.
Delhi may not go for ‘knee-jerk’ reaction
Separately, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to diplomatically isolate Pakistan as an immediate measure following the Uri attack.
Chairing a meeting on Monday to review the situation in Indian Kashmir, Modi sought evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the attacks to be presented to all major global fora, including the upcoming UN General Assembly, The Indian Express reported.
Modi was also briefed about the use of ‘incendiary’ ammunition by terrorists during the attack. Such ammunition, experts believe, points to the backing the terrorists received from the Pakistan Army.
