BAHAWALPUR: Attendants and hospital staff at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital’s Gynaecology Ward caught two women trying to exchange a baby with a stillborn on Wednesday and handed them over to the police.

Cantt police told journalists on Thursday that two women had given birth at the Bahawal Victoria’s Gynaecology Ward on Wednesday. However, one of the babies was stillborn. Police said Kausar and Shameem, janitorial workers at the ward, had made a deal with the family of the woman who had delivered the stillborn.  The two women had tried to exchange the two babies in the crib but were caught red-handed by a midwife in the ward. She raised a hue and cry and the parents of the baby who was alive gathered in the ward and shouted at Kausar and Shameem.

Medical Superintendent Rao Javed, too, visited the scene. He handed over the two women to the police.  Cantt police have registered a case against the two women.
