FAISALABAD:
A butcher was killed and dozens of others were injured while slaughtering sacrificial animals on Eidul Azha.

Qaisar Ahmad Dhamna, a resident of Mandir Road in Chiniot, told The Express Tribune on Thursday that his neighbour had brought a bull and hired Bashir Ahmad, an elderly butcher from Harsa Sheikh village, to slaughter it on Eid.

“Bashir Ahmad and his aides were untrained. The bull hit one of the men while they were pushing it down on the ground. He was badly injured and died on the spot,” Dhamna said.

A resident of Mohallah Muftiyan said he had hired a team of butchers which tuned out to be untrained. “As they tried to slaughter my bull, it went on a rampage, hitting and injuring two of them.”

Tariq Hussain Malik, a resident of Mohallah Chah Matheywala, said his bull had hit and injured four butchers. “I then had to arrange another team of men trained to slaughter the animal.” A duty officer at the Chiniot DHQ Hospital said more than 100 people who were injured while slaughtering animals had been brought to the hospital. Out of these, 10 were referred to a Faisalabad hospital due to their serious wounds.
