First casualty: Patient with dengue dies in Rawalpindi

The woman was said to have been suffering from kidney problems too

RAWALPINDI: A woman died of dengue at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) here on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, doctors at the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) have confirmed six more dengue patients, taking the toll in Rawalpindi to 63 this year, a health official told The Express Tribune.

Naziran Bibi, 60, mother of a sanitary petrol working with the district health department, was confirmed to have been suffering from dengue fever. She was said to have been suffering from kidney problems too.

She remained admitted to a private hospital at Harley Street.

According to the health official, it was the first reported death of a patient suffering from dengue.

Separately, the doctors at the Holy Family received reports of 17 patients suspected of suffering from dengue from the National Institute of Health (NIH).

The reports confirmed that six out of 17 patients were suffering from dengue.

According to available details, three patients came from urban areas of Rawalpindi and three others from Islamabad.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Punjab government continued their efforts to control dengue outbreak in the city.

Salman Rafique, the adviser to the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, on Wednesday, visited the HFH and enquired about the health of dengue and Congo patients.

The adviser was flanked by Dr Waseem Akram, head of Dengue Control Programme of the Punjab Government, and Dr Mukhtar Husain, director-general health services.

The adviser was briefed about health facilities available for dengue patients at the hospital.

The adviser said that the provincial government was aware of last year dengue outbreak in the city.

Rafique also visited different union councils and witnessed efforts of field workers against dengue.
