Samsung on Wednesday announced the launch of its Tizen App Challenge -- an initiative to encourage third party app developers to contribute to the new OS.
Samsung outshines Apple, secures nearly 10% more market share
For those of us who are not familiar with Tizen, it is a new operating system developed by the Technical Steering Group (TSG) which includes Samsung and Intel. The new OS rivals the other major OSs, Android by Google and iOS by Apple. Tizen works more along the lines of Android as an open source platform, meaning smartphone manufactures can use it to collaborate with their own user interface.

The Taizen competition, which commenced on August 18, is open for all unity developers and will continue till November 21. Unity is a cross-platform game engine with a built-in IDE developed by Unity Technologies. It is used to develop video games for web plugins, desktop platforms, consoles and mobile devices.
The challenge consists of two parts. First, developers will have to show that their game has over 10,000 downloads on Google Play Store. Once done, developers will receive a formal go ahead from Samsung and can then place their app on Tizen Store.
