Sunday Bazaars: Prices of most vegetables go up

A sugar-free potato variety was available for Rs25 and cold stored potatoes for Rs19 per kilogramme

LAHORE: Prices of most vegetables went up at Sunday Bazaars in the City.

The price list displayed by the Lahore Market Committee showed that the prices of Chinese ginger had gone up by 67 per cent. It sold between Rs145 and Rs150 per kilogramme at most Sunday markets.

The prices of bitter gourd rose by 50 per cent. They sold between Rs65 and Rs69 per kilogramme. The price of methi rose by 42 per cent. It sold for Rs88 to Rs95 per kilogramme. The price of pumpkins registered a 40 per cent increase. They sold for Rs14 per kilogramme.

The prices of locally-produced and Chinese carrots rose by 29 and 18 per cent, respectively. Locally-produced carrots sold between Rs40 and Rs45, while the Chinese variety was available between Rs50 and Rs53 per kilogramme.

The prices of radishes rose by 13 per cent increase. They sold between Rs20 and Rs26 a kilogramme.

The price of cabbages also rose by 12 per cent. They sold at Sunday Bazaars between Rs40 and Rs45 per kilogramme.

The prices of taro roots (arvi) rose by eight per cent. These were sold for Rs50 to Rs54 per kilogramme. The price of peas rose by five per cent. They sold for Rs130 to Rs137 per kilogramme.

The price of locally-produced garlic rose by three per cent. It sold for Rs220 to Rs226 per kilogramme. Chinese garlic sold for Rs248 to Rs256 per kilogramme.

The prices of locally-produced lemons, lady fingers, green chilies, onions, turnips, potatoes, cucumbers, cauliflowers and capsicum declined. According to the official price list, the prices of desi lemons fell by 21 per cent. These were available for Rs85 to Rs92 per kilogramme. Lady fingers sold between Rs60 and Rs69 a kilogramme, showing a 14 per cent decline in price from last week.

The price of green chilly declined by 11 per cent. It sold between Rs44 and Rs49 per kilogramme. The prices of onions declined by 10 per cent. They sold between Rs16 and Rs18 per kilogramme at Sunday Bazaars.

The prices of turnips and potatoes declined by three per cent. Turnips were sold for Rs58 and potatoes for Rs40 per kilogramme. A sugar-free potato variety was available for Rs25 and cold stored potatoes for Rs19 per kilogramme.
