The said amount was supposed to be spent on poor women to enhance their vocational skills and provide them with stitching machines and other required equipment.
During the meeting, which was chaired by PAC chairperson Saleem Raza Jalbani, the audit officials said the population and social departments have spent millions of rupees, but have not maintained a proper record.
"There are a lot of irregularities in the accounts of these departments, which cannot be presented in just one meeting," said an official of the audit department.
Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz MPA Sorath Thebo, who is also member of PAC, suggested that the case be referred to the anti-corruption department for inquiry. However, Jalbani directed the relevant officials to produce the record of the expenditure within 10 days, otherwise action will be taken against them.
